It’s Giving Tuesday! A Powerful Alive in Christ Testimony

A Ministry Offering Hope to Those Impacted by Same-sex Attraction & Gender Dysphoria

Vol. 95, November/December 2025

We come to you this holiday season, extremely grateful. 2025 has been a humbling yet powerful year for Alive in Christ. We hosted our 2nd ever Alive in Christ fall retreat at a new location with over 30 people from four countries in attendance (you can read those amazing testimonies on our website). We presented training seminars, held regular support groups, advised pastors, parents, and couples in crisis, spoke to youth groups, and shared in numerous church services and events. We give glory to God for His faithfulness!

Another way we serve those impacted by same-sex attraction and gender dysphoria is through mentoring and discipleship. While this is something we’ve offered almost my whole time as director (since August 2004), in early 2021 I had the opportunity to participate in a mentoring program with a student at a local Bible college. The potential mentors were introduced to the young ladies over lunch. Though Alana wasn’t there, a friend of hers heard that I worked in this type of ministry and suggested Alana request to work with me. What began as a mentoring relationship (with many ups and downs) has become a life-giving friendship for both of us and her now husband as well. Here is Alana’s story:

Growing up, I always felt confused about my identity. Whether it was gender dysphoria, same-sex attraction, or the call God had on my life, I never felt settled in who I was. I was raised in a faith-filled home but was never given the space to process the questions that weighed on my heart as a young child, questions like: why do I feel like a boy? Why am I attracted to girls? Who has God created me to be? Did He mess up when He made me?

I stuffed those questions and feelings down until high school and early college when I began exploring that identity as a gay woman. Despite wrestling with these issues, the Lord still led me to Bible college where I began pursuing a call in pastoral ministry. It was there that I was introduced to Brenna and Alive in Christ through a female mentorship program being offered to students. Though most were assigned a mentor randomly, I was able to specifically request Brenna having heard of her story previously. I longed to experience the same freedom she had.

I continued to struggle with same-sex attraction and my identity as a woman, but Brenna kept showing up for me, encouraging me, speaking into my life, and praying with me. She didn’t see me just as my sins or my temptations, nor did she condemn me for experiencing those things. Instead, she showed me what freedom in Christ truly looked like. Through our time together, I began walking in my own freedom, understanding that my primary issue was not even my sexuality but my unbelief in God’s power and who He created me to be. Every single thing He has, or will ever speak over me, is true, and though I might not have felt it at the moment, I had no choice but to take Him at His Word. To whom else would I go? He has the words of eternal life (John 6:66-69). Over time, and countless conversations with Brenna, I found the sexuality I struggled with for so long falling down before the Lord like the statue of Dagon in 1 Samuel 5.

When I began dating my now husband Jordan in 2021, Brenna guided me through the new triggers and challenges that presented themselves in our relationship and early marriage, and in September 2024, Jordan and I welcomed our beautiful daughter into this world.

This life and family I love would not have been possible without the ministry of Alive in Christ. There was no graduation from Alive in Christ; there has only been a continuation of mentorship and friendship with Brenna, as my husband and I joyfully navigate marriage and early parenthood. God has been faithful to my family over the last few years! To tell you what God has done in my life through Alive in Christ is to invite you into a story of transformation. Thank You God for sending Brenna and thank You for the ministry of Alive in Christ!

It has been a joy to walk alongside Alana, her now husband Jordan, and now their daughter for these years, to be able to show up for them in so many ways. My husband Roy and I attended their wedding, two of my kids and I attended their baby shower, and recently my daughter and I attended their daughter’s 1st birthday. And we will keep showing up!

To continue to serve and support people like Alana, as well as invest in and equip churches and pastors, Alive in Christ is in need of $25,000 in year-end giving. We continue to expand and grow! We plan to hire an assistant director in 2026. We continue to serve churches for whom finances are a challenge. Our mentoring, consulting, and support groups are offered at no cost. The Fall Retreat was definitely a highlight of 2025, and we hope to continually offer these events for those who desperately need the support and fellowship. Please prayerfully consider giving to this need, so that we can continue to offer hope to those impacted by same-sex attraction & gender dysphoria in all these ways and more.
