June: Gay Pride Month
As we wrap up the month of June, rainbows are still everywhere. The gay community adopted the rainbow as its symbol in 1978 at the request of Harvey Milk, America’s first openly gay elected official. As the mayor of San Francisco, he urged artist Gilbert Baker (also gay) to create a symbol of pride for the gay community, and the rainbow flag was Baker’s design. President Bill Clinton declared June to be Gay and Lesbian Pride Month in 1999 due to the anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Now every June, many major companies add a rainbow to their logo for the entire month. Stores have a selection of rainbow-decorated items. I was at my local library last week, and even in their small children’s section, there were many books on display to celebrate gay pride.

These rainbows could impact you in many ways. In Genesis 9:17, God says to Noah after the flood that the rainbow “is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.” So first, I hope that you pause to pray for the individuals the pride rainbows represent – LGBTQ-identified people Jesus loves and died for. I hope you are also reminded to pray for us! The rainbows are a constant reminder of the need for ministries like Alive in Christ, offering hope to individuals, families, and churches impacted by same-sex attraction & gender dysphoria, and equipping Christians to love well the LGBTQ-identified people in their sphere of influence.
A Vehicle
Alive in Christ is raising funds to purchase a vehicle. Since the beginning of my time serving with Alive in Christ (April 2003), I have used personal vehicles to do the work of the ministry. As my kids get older, get their driver’s license and their own jobs, taking my vehicle away for a weekend of ministry is becoming more of a hardship for my family. Alive in Christ has applied for various grants including Speed the Light, but US missionaries/missions are not eligible for vehicles under these programs. Would you consider giving toward this need? We need to raise $4,000 as a downpayment on a reliable, gently used vehicle. You can give through the directions below; simply mark your gift “Vehicle Needs.” And of course, we would welcome the donation of a gently used vehicle!
An Upcoming Seminar
We will be presenting one of our seminars, “Same-Sex Attraction & the Church: Compassion without Compromise,” at Crossroads Worship Center in Weymouth on September 26. The seminar will take place from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Mark your calendars, and we will have the registration link in the next newsletter.
As Paul wrote to the Philippian church (1:3), “I thank my God every time I remember you.” Your prayers and your financial support make all this possible. We are currently scheduling seminars and church services for 2027; we are almost completely booked in 2026 – praise God! Let us know if we can serve you in this way or in any way.
