Hello, friends of Alive in Christ! When you receive this letter, Gay Pride Month will drawing to a close. In June, it seems that many brand logos and products are turned into rainbows. Christians often have mixed reactions to seeing all the rainbow-ized items. Here’s our recommended response.
Pray. Remember that each rainbow represents people that our loving, heavenly Father gave His Son to die for, people that are precious in His sight. So, every time you see your favorite product or logo turned into a rainbow, stop and pray. Pray for those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer. Pray that there would be strong examples of Christ followers in their everyday lives. Pray that they would recognize their need for a Savior (every human’s primary need), and that God’s kindness would stir their hearts to repentance (Romans 2:4). Pray that hearts would be good soil for the gospel and God’s Word (Mark 4:8). Also, pray for those that we serve at Alive in Christ. Pray that they would feel God’s pleasure in the very countercultural choice they are making to follow Him no matter what the cost. Pray for those with loved ones who identify as LGBTQ+, that instead of being a painful reminder, each rainbow would be a reminder of God’s covenant to be faithful to mankind (Genesis 9:17), and that includes their children and loved ones! As the apostle Paul reminded Timothy (and us!) in some of his final written words, “If we are faithless, He [God] remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself” (2 Timothy 2:13). The rainbows will fade as we move into July, but God’s faithfulness will not!
During June, I had the opportunity to speak to pastors on a prayer call and to give two radio interviews. Pray for more opportunities to share that the Gospel is good news for all, including (but not especially) for those who identify as LGBTQ+. And thank you for your prayers, support, and for believing with us that the words in 1 Corinthians 6:11 (“such were some of you”) are God’s heart for all impacted by same-sex attraction and gender dysphoria!
We have a “Speaking to Youth” training in September that serves to equip leaders, pastors, parents & educators on how to address the way young people view LGBTQ+ issues, as well as how to offer them a biblical framework for sexuality and gender.
